Reflexology is a holistic therapy that supports and promotes a range of benefits for older people living independently in residential homes and care homes. Incorporating reflexology brings about a deep relaxation, supporting the body to reduce stress, boosting circulation, enhancing the body physically and emotionally bringing about balance. It is hugely beneficial.
Working with the resident, family or nursing team, I can create a treatment plan tailor-made to support the specific needs of that individual, working either the reflex points of the feet or hands.
Reflexology is non-invasive and can be performed fully clothed, making it accessible and comfortable for people of all ages. The touch-based nature of reflexology offers a much needed opportunity for personal connection and compassion. The individual care and attention provided during my treatment can offer a sense of comfort and reassurance. The nature of the treatment can also ease feelings of agitation or anxiety which is common particularly those suffering with Alzheimers or dementia.
For many residents, daily life can be filled with challenges that cause anxiety and stress. Adjusting to a new environment, dealing with health issues and coping with the loss of independence can lead to emotional strain. Reflexology can help to counteract these feelings by promoting deep relaxation and supporting the body's parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for the "rest and digest response". (Slows down heart rate, lowers blood pressure and promotes digestion when the body is calm and relaxed.
Poor circulation is a common issue among older adults and can lead to a host of problems such as swollen feet, cold extremities. Reflexology can help the body boost blood flow and support lymphatic drainage, promoting better circulation throughout the body.
Sleep disturbances are common among older adults, conditions like insomnia, restless syndrome and sleep apnea. Reflexology can help to improve sleep quality by relaxing the nervous system and reducing anxiety, promoting and supporting better sleep patterns.
Constipation is a significant problem for older adults as we age the body slows down and decline in bowel function. It is also highly impacted by medication. Applying pressure to the bowel reflex (digestive system reflex points) can have significant impact on the body supporting digestion and aiding in the removal of waste and helping to relieve discomfort.
As we age, our immune system becomes more vulnerable to illness and infection. Reflexology can help the body's immune system by supporting lymphatic drainage. Working reflex points linked to the immune and lymphatic system will aid the body to stimulate healing and balance.
Reflexology cannot cure a medical condition but regular treatments can have a significant impact on an individuals health conditions, especially constant or recurring ones that they might have come to accept over time as being a normal part of life.

A few of the more common conditions that can be supported through Reflexology. It is usually safe to have Reflexology alongside conventional medicine, but if you are currently having any medical treatment please speak to your GP before booking an appointment.
If you are considering reflexology or have a loved one in residential care, talk to the facility about the possibility of adding this holistic therapy to their wellness activities. The positive impact on well-being could enhance an individual's 'Golden Years', giving them a relaxing, comforting experience and something to look forward to which will support the body to promote healing and boost immunity. I would be happy to chat further, discuss your requirements and crate a tailor-made treatment package.
A consultation, treatment plan and cost would be discussed for each individual client prior to treatment.
Depending on current medical conditions and health would determine the length of treatment. Generally, a treatment can last between 70-30 minutes working the reflex points of the feet or hands.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss further.
Note: I require 48 hours notice for cancellation of an appointment; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed.
